The National Park Service and the Zane Grey's West Society will host the Zane Grey Festival again this summer. Zane Grew was a prolific writer of Western novels who resided in Lackawaxen from 1905 to 19-18. The festival will highlight Zane Grey's baseball, writing and fishing careers. The festival will be held at the Zane Grey Museum and will run from 10am-4pm.

The program "Backyard Biology" seeks to develop their interests even further and act as catalyst for life-long learning. During the course of seven weeks, participants will learn about many of the key scientific principles behind what lives and grows in their own backyards. Children will utilize the scientific method to investigate the world around them. Rangers will guide the participants through experiments relating to plant development, density and the food web. The program will also include art projects and games relating to fish and wildlife. "Backyard Biology" will be held in the backyard of Zane Grey Museum. The hour long program will meet for seven weeks. This program is designed for children ages 7-12 and is limited to 25 children. Please call to register.
The "River Readings" program will allow children to learn about the Delaware River and the many animals, insects, plants and trees that can be found along the shores of the beautiful river. "River Reading" will be held every Thursday at 10am. Come and enjoy the shade of the maple trees at Zane Grey Museum in Lackawaxen, while listening and learning about the natural world around us. This program is geared to children in pre-school through first grade and is limited to 20. Please call to register.

A week-long theatre workshop for area teens to culminate in a public presentation. Teens (ages 12-18 years old) will work with NACL to create an original, contemporary version of Shakespeare’s A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM. The students will study NACL-style physical theatre skills, creative play-making, writing, music, song composition, and the vocal execution of Shakespearean text. The young actors will create and develop scenes to construct an original, contemporary performance based on Shakespeare's famous comedy "A Midsummer Night’s Dream". Led by NACL teachers Glenn Hall and Sarah Dey Hirshan, the workshop will culminate in a public performance on Friday, July 25th at 8 PM at NACL Theatre.

Disco Divas

On Friday Nite Donna summer did her thing. Hannah , Annabelle and I danced, did somersaults and generally raced around like maniacs. We tailgated with the moms. They kept telling us not to mingle(stranger danger and all that) and for some reason looked irritated when chocolate cake was smeared all over disco outfits.

Saturday we meant to go see the Little Mermaid, but after watching it four thousand times on video, we decided to sleep in. We picked up Hannah and hung in the pool at the Youth Center. For four hours straight we recreated our own aquatic musical version of aforementioned mermaid while swimming.

Sunday we hit the Farmers Market in Callicoon-Yummmy cherries -from Hellers and beautiful swiss chard from Lucky Dog Farm. When it looked like rain we ran over to the Callicoon Wine Merchant (cause we love that cheese guy) and shared a meat plate! Then off to Jeff for great art. We saw our favorite potters Jill Weiner of Earth Girl Pottery and Carolyn Duke who even though shes over four feet tall can hang with us anytime(she gave us the coolest mini pot). Then listened (ok only for about five seconds) to the concert for winds before we got bored and opted for ice cream.
